Its been time since I typed “wordpress.com” in the address bar of the IE window.. With newbies bloggin at rockin speed and also requests from few close to heart ppl  I finally decided to take up this post….. Guess wht the post is goin to be…

Well the word “CHIYAN” is the nickname of actor Vikram in the superhit Tamil movie “Sethu” (The original character name was Sethu only)… Dont know how many of my readers have watched this movie.. I’ll just briefly give few scenes which are quite related to this post…..

Sethu(i.e. actor Vikram) known as ‘Chiyan’ in his college is some senior student  and is kind of a loutish guy who sets rules for everyone including the coll’s principal..His family members too even dont like the name “Chiyan” for him. A fresher called Abithakuchalambal (actor Abitha) enters the coll and our hero is quite impressed with her (she plays the ingenue role).. After mild ragging for few days, he asks her about the meaning of her name oneday.

In two to three  days she explains the Sanskrit meaning of her name and then for her turn she asks what “CHIYAN” means.. Problem starts for our Chiyan as he wants to impress her and, the research work was spread out to everyone in the college and his living areas.

Too many suggestions and too many conjectures came up from History to Language (Tamil and Sanskrit) departments. People flipped thru all the pages of the old agaraadhis(dictionary in Tamil)..

Now the job came to the astrologers(pandits) in the living area. One among them , when consulted with the problem, was explaining that the name was closer to the name  of God’s reincarnation . He explains saying SREEMAN (God’s name)…. CHEEYAN(Sethu’s name)… But a proper meaning was not found even by the end of the movie. And ‘Chiyan’ is another term famous without any meaning.

 We’ll now turn to our story..

It was the usual chemistry class in tht September(2001) time when quarterly exams were just over and this guy was just chit-chattin with the benchmates about pettiless matter..The twist was that the staff who entered the class, actually took chemistry subject for the next section. The lady was known for her comical way of teaching as well as punishing guys by ordering them to go and stand behind the last row if they dont answer questions..

Because the original staff was not there, our lady teacher thought of just brushing up the  lessons taught for quarterly ( Teachers OB adikaradha decenta solli irrukaen).

She knows only few toppers from this section and she’s quite avaricious tht only her students must become school topppers. So she was just asking who and all  topped chemistry in the quarterly exam ( I’m not mentioning the no. of toppers considered here . NOTE THAT   ).

Our guy was the surprise pack in the list . The teacher was wondering if the guy was readin in that school whereas originally he was studyin in that school from Pre K.G.. She started to ask the guy’s name.

Before he opened his mouth to tell the name his benchmate shouted the name as “JIKKI” which she heard as “SIKKI”. Everyone was literally rofl . She thought that was a real name and said ” Nice name !! I think he’s a hyderabad cricketer”. Our guy was just blown out laughing.  It was just a terrible experience.. On one part he was enjoyin the comedy of the teacher but on the other side it was quite miserable cause girls were laughing at him.The guy put his head down looking at the desk and covering the gleeful smile  with his left hand .

Need I say the guy is myself. The name “JIKKI” was coined illogically and no one knows who found it and where it came from. It’s like some shooting star sudddenly found on the terrace of your home.. lol. Six years since the term was formed, it was terrible to see people call me by the name “Ravi” in my coll cause it was like I’m out of the earth and in some other planet.. Even my friend’s parents called me by this name so it was too worst to have someone call me with new names.. There was no one to question me the meaning of Jikki nor were I personally interested in findin out the meaning..

“Sikki … What is the product of this equation ?”. I was lookin around who asked the question. It was our own teacher standing there near the board.. The equation was somethin my chemistry teacher has given so much importance while teachin in the class durin which I think, I was busy with “BINGO” game in the last bench.. That teacher was really lineant so we thought it was no problem untill she warned us  the other teacher may come durin her hols very soon.

Atleast yesterday I must have read in my friend’s home. But it was a fine day after that slight drizzle and cool wind blowing everything was ideal for that. Its obviously CRICKET . I forced my friend to call his flatmates for playin cricket. Those people who were relaxing on that sunday evening came out and gleefully addressed me “Enna Ricardo! Quarterly pass ayittiyamae . Thaaru maaru da”. I was replying “Pakkathula Padikara payan irrundhan . Adhan anna”.. Ya Ricardo was yet another name I got in this place cause of my look and mode of playin cricket in tht flat..

“Enna pa! Answera sollu… Illa na , poi pinnala nillu” ( Tell the answer or go and stand at the last bench). I said ” Mam . Please Move I want to see  the eqn completely”. She moved.  But then I had no clue about the answer.. Seems like I’m the first one to be punished (adavadhu mudhal boni) for her question in my class. Would she ask me whether I scored good marks in quarterly by copying?

But then she started questioning my bench mates. Thank God . No one answered. The question passed row by row to the first bench guy. I thought the first rank holder sitting there would tell the answer and I w’d be there standin in embarassment today at the last row . I prayed my brother doesnt see me while passin across my class and then later inform in my house. He’ll first get part of my share of the evening snacks by blackmailing me and then later whisper to my mom” Ma!!!  Babu inniki last benchla mutti potukittu (kneel down) irrundhan.” I’d think ” Adapaavi build up kuduthu vera mattivittaanae ….. Nambikkai Throgi… Idhulae enkitta padhi snacksa vera vangittan.”

Dint know myself tht I’m goin to reform tht BABU to BOB merely cause of the passion for three letter or one syllabled names.Its quite a general interest for a vast sectorof people . Even history of Tamilnadu shows them in the form of political parties DMK, their leaders MGR,… and then leading actors (Tamil names) Shivaji, Kamal ,Rajini, Ajith(this dedicated to Sanjeev)..  Even coll mates SAM, RGR, RAJ, RAM,.. were quite powerful people. May be I too was better in school cause of ‘Jikki’ which in Tamil, contains three letters only. The word ‘bob’ is a special palindrome in that when it is considered as an image and rotated ,will also result in a palindrome “qoq” ( Dont ask me a meaning for qoq. PLS.. ).Still there was somethin unique I thought I must add to BOB such tht the new name must make my friends its me alone. SO i appended the rollno. 89 to my name . Besides from the fact that 89 is a prime ( Mathematically we must realise that every number in this world is either prime or their multiples. So obviously prime numbers rule the mathematical world), it was also special that its complement 11 is also a prime.( Idhu naane kandu pudichaen . No copying.. Trust me ). My neighbour started scratching my fingers when I was looking down at the desk.

“Dei! Anga paar da he’s taking chalk piece from tht teacher da”my friend was whispering at me. I was telling to myself “Seri seri.. Inikki namma kalaai vanga vendiya naal. Nothin can be done”. Once again I looked down at the bench as if I were too much writhed with shame by forgettin to revise for the 5th time tht equation….

“Mam ! The equation is  wrong mam…” he said and gave some proper explanations for that. The teacher replied “Oh Amaam pa! ……… Sorry students. Sit down”.

I didnt open my mouth . I just grinned at the next guy cause  the next round of questions started from him. He was in few minutes standing at the last bench. He was lookin with that red face along with the rest of  my benchmates who joined him there , at me.. I was later telling them” Dei Avangaluku equation seriya ezhudha theriyala. Adha naan sonna thappunu vanga. Adhan namma sishyan(disciple) vittu kalaichaen . Epdi ?????”
